We’re Now Two Versions Gone From The E39 M5 – New 5 Series Details
Well – I’ve found what is clearly one of (if not the best) posts on the web about the new 5 series. In fact it’s so good – you might need to go and get a cup of coffee before you sit down and read it.
Gustav over at the M5 Board has put together a terrific and conclusive write up about the new 5 series released to the public just this week. Not only does the post do justice to design considerations, it also includes as much detail as you’ll read anywhere online in addition to some great pictures in high res…in great sizes.
At first I was feeling kind of negative about the new 5 series design and wasn’t sure about the technology. However, after reading this post – I’m feeling more upbeat about the latest from BMW in the 5 series and really looking forward to what the M5 will look like.
Here’s a quote from the page:
The new 5 Series can be equipped with a Sport Package that adds Adaptive Drive, which contains several key features.
* Driving Dynamics Control, introduced on the 2009 BMW 7 Series and Z4
Roadster, allows the driver to set the ride/handling/drivetrain
behavior of the car through a single rocker switch on the center
console. Adjacent to the E-shift lever or manual shift lever is the
Driving Dynamics Control selector (logically, on the driver’s side).
Driving Dynamics Control provides four standard settings that tailor
vehicle behavior to different moods. The settings are Comfort, Normal,
Sport and Sport+. Affected vehicle parameters include engine throttle
response, transmission shift characteristics, power-steering assistance
level, and Dynamic Traction Control mode (in the Sport+ setting).
The e39 m5 really had some smooth lines and certain reserved elegance…I feel that the new M5 will build upon that… the E60? Well…I’m still not sure about that design…
