On the 25th anniversary of BMW Motorsport GmbH, a group of select journalists were invited to learn more about the history of the M5 series. One of those featured is the never released E39 M5 Touring.
This car has a 5.0 liter V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower. Its maximum torque is 500 Nm or 368 lb-ft. It’s a pity that this model was not put into production. They sited some problem with its rear axle but I think the main reason why they did not go ahead is that they believe the market for the E39 M5 Touring is not big enough.
BMW M GmbH never released an official shot of this controversial car but some photos surface on the web in the past. This page is basically an e39 m5 review of the “touring” model and provides you a link to lively discussions about the vehicle.
