Polishing E39 M5 Exhaust Tips

It doesn’t take long in crappy weather or the winter time for your exhaust tips on the E39 M5 to start lookin’ ugly.  Recently I took it upon myself to clean them up and get them back to looking new.

Below is a picture of them before and after – and the full project is outlined as a recent update inside the M5 Video Guide private members area.  Anyway – with some fairly inexpensive products, a drill and a little elbow grease, I was able to remove the carbon build up on the inside of the pipe tips and the polish the exterior to an almost new like lustre.

They look awesome!!! :) :) :)

If you’re looking for a full e39 m5 review – may I humbly plug my M5 Video Guide?  ;)   It provides a complete overview of the car affectionately known as the “beast” – but ON video.

Anyway, back to this little project – because the build quality of the E39 m5 is nothing short of fantastic – BMW ///M used full stainless steel tips on the exhaust resonators – which makes them look really exotic and rich.  Unlike the e60 m5  and most of all other BMW cars which have a chrome plated sleeve on the exterior – the exhaust pipes on the e39 m5 are all stainless out the back of the beast!

Here’s a before and after pic of the project, which took me about 20 minutes to do both sides:
