M62 Oxygen Sensor Replacement of your E39 M5
Here’s a do it yourself site that features M62 Oxygen Sensor replacement of your E39 M5. BMW recommends that O2 sensors should be replaced every one hundred thousand miles since not doing so will reduce your car’s fuel economy and also results in poor idle performance.
The job requires the following tools; 22mm closed end wrench and a 10mm Nutdriver. You would also need a new Pre-Cat O2 sensor. The difficult part of the job is raising the front end of your car on a ramp but the actual replacement of one O2 sensor should only take around 10 minutes.
And if you have a Peake R5/FCX scan tool, now would also be a perfect time to reset the check engine light. That is surely hitting two birds with one stone.

Brooks,
Just curious but why the M62 and not the S62 ? The M62 is the 540i motor.
