Fixing the DSP of your E39 M5

  1. Fixing the Digital Signal Processing or DSP for short of your E39 M5 can be tricky. But here’s a thread in the M5 Discussion board that could help. It is noted that there are two common faults with the DSP. First is that the sound dies for no apparent cause. This is solved by simply switching the engine off and restarting after a few moments.

The second and more serious defect is that the sound dies and the little orange light would not come on no matter how much you push it. But the good news is you can easily fix it. First you have to insert the key without turning on the ignition. Turn the headlights on and disconnect the battery. After this, remove the fuses number 7 and 41 from the holder in the glove box. Wait five minutes. reconnect the battery and plug the fuses back in.

And voila! your DSP, radio, CD, SatNav voice should work again.
