AutoEnginuity OBD2 Scan Tool for the E39 M5

Bimmerzone offers one of the most advanced scan tools out there for OBD2 connectivity.  It is by AutoEnginuity and works with your PC, Palm (who uses those anymore? ;) ) and Pocket PC.

The difference between this tool and a Peake Code reader or a MAC Tools ET-50 for example, is that you can see stuff in real time with 1ms sampling accuracy for things like fuel/ air mixtures, ignition timing and 02 sensors.  It can also LOG a history of fault codes, which can be handy if you’re getting trouble codes consistently.

Here’s a couple screen shots from a laptop that gives you an idea of how much more comprehensive this OBDII tool is than others.

Bimmerzone offers these tools for various makes, including of course, BMW – so if you’re going to buy one for your E39 M5, make sure that you check out the Expansion kit which will allow you to see non OBD II sensors such as ABS, Transmission and airbags, to name a few – very much like the dealership can see.

Inside the M5 Video Guide, I talk about this type of OBD II scan tool, in addition to others which may be better suited to your needs.
